Tips For Making More With Google Adsense
Sometimes some very simple changes in your Adsense ads can make a big difference
in your overall success. For example do you regularly view the Help section of the Google Adsense site? It’s a
wealth of free information with case studies, newbie central and a help forum. If you are the type of person that
doesn’t like to read through pages of highly useful information, here are a few tips that come from my experience,
however you will benefit more from reading the help pages on the Adsense site, but here is my two cents worth of
advice:
Tip 1: Colors matter. I have found, as most Adsense
publishers, that blended colors work best. That is when you pick an ad style be sure to choose colors that blend
with your site colors. For example if all of your hypertext links on your site are dark blue then make sure that
your Adsense links are dark blue as well as the rest of the ad should blend too such as text color border and
background.

Tip 2: Placement. All of the research and experience I
have says that people react to Adsense and other forms of advertising the same way they read, from left to right.
Google has done extensive work on this and provides a heat-map of where people look and click on a web page. The
following graphic is from the Google Adsense site and shows the best placement for Adsense ads.
Tip 3: Ad Style. The style or type of Adsense ad is also
important. Google has also done extensive research on this as well. It appears that 336 X 280 and 300 X250 Style
ads work the best overall and produce more clicks than other sizes.
Tip 4: Content Placement. This is more about how to
bring the reader to your ads. Adsense ads work best when "sandwiched" in with content. For example if you are
placing ads within articles be sure to place the ad between the title and the first paragraph. The reader must pass
by the ad when reading the article.
Tip 5: Testing and more testing. All of the above tips
work well with the general population of sites and content, but remember your site may react differently. The
important take-away is you need to find
what’s best for your site and content.
You may find that blended colors don’t work for you or your readers. They may only react to high contrast ads. They
may only click on tower ads in your columns or a host of other non traditional reactions. The only way that you can
get the most out of your site is to test different ad styles, placement, colors etc.
Depending on your site traffic you will need
to allot a specific observation period. If you have relatively high traffic you may only need a few days
worth of testing to make the proper adjustments. Lower volume
sites may take longer to get a good read.
