Put Your Ideas to Work

In this chapter I have laid out some basics for site design that are important for Internet marketing. My focus was to quickly provide you with some tips that will make the design process easier.

WebSite Design Basics

One of the simplest ways to organize a website is to create it on a piece of paper.  It doesn't have to be fancy just some thoughts as to how you want your site to look with both content and graphics. Many website authoring programs come pre-loaded with templates that do the graphic layout for you.

After laying out your site, purchasing and loading your software, your next set of tasks revolves around setting up your site with your software. Remember that you can design a web site as a series of pages linked together or one or two large pages with links to specific sections on the same page. There are advantages and disadvantages to both layout types although my recommendation is to develop multiple page sites, as they are easier to manage and link together.

My aim in this section is to provide you with a frame of reference to create a site that works for you and showcases your product or service in the best light. Some times you will only need a sales page for a particular product or you made need to have multiple pages for say an informational AdSense revenue site.

Tables

Although most web site designers do not use tables anymore and design mostly with cascading style sheets or CSS. If you are using a program such as Dreamweaver or any other standard html authoring package, tables are a standard technique in developing a site, however if you utilize a training website such as Total Training you can easily become confident in utilizing CSS as with Dreamweaver you can do either. The main reason to use a table based design is to provide a simple structure for setting up pages in a site.

There are a number of ways to develop a website, however if you want to start to make money selling a product or service quickly you need to concentrate more on marketing rather than site design. That’s why it’s so important to utilize programs such as XSitePro or HyperVRE rather than the more traditional web authoring programs, as they will afford you the ability to get up and running quickly.

If you have decided to use the standard templates provided with your software, a theme will automatically be applied to each subsequent page. Spend some time drawing out the way you would like your site to look, then begin the actual process of design. Take some time and review the pre-defined templates that are provided by your software, you may find one that is suitable for your needs. Remember that, in most cases, these templates can be modified to some extent.
