Site Monetization: Making Money With Your Site

Google AdSense

Google AdSense is a program that pays you to place text ads on your website pages. Each time a visitor clicks on one of these ads you get paid a percentage of Google’s ad revenue.

These ads come in many different formats so that they can easily be incorporated into your web page either on the top, side or middle of the page. These ads can be customized with any color for text or background.

Making Money With AdSense

Ah yes, the most asked question on the Internet, “Can you make money with AdSense?” And the answer is: yes, maybe, sometimes, always, never, in due time. I guess I could go on for ever because there is no simple answer. I hate to say it but yes, you can make money with AdSense. That being said I’ll tell you a few ways to make it happen.

First sign up, with Google, and get an AdSense account. (I hate to state the obvious but you must have a web site to place AdSense Ads on. If you don’t, please see all of the previous chapters in this eBook about developing a website.) You can sign up by clicking here

  • Be sure to pick an AdSense size that not only fits your allotted space but utilizes the same color scheme as your website. You can easily specify colors for text, border, background and URL. Experiment with these to find the right format.
  • Make sure that you utilize the Channel function for each ad type. This very important because you need to track your AdSense ads to determine what is working and what does not work.

How AdSense Works:

Adsense Ads take several different forms. The first and foremost is a textual or text ad that can be of varying size.  Some of them fit at the very top of a web page others can be fit into actual content on the page or in the side columns or panels of a page. the best way to illustrate this is to show you a graphic from Google's Adsense pages:

Once you place the Adsense code on your website the Google Adsense ads will target ads that compliment your website content.  For example if your site is about dog grooming the Adsense ads will display ads about dog grooming. Now you can understand how important relavant content is to your site. Not only does good content place the right Google Adsense Ads on your site but it also drives how well you are ranked by the search engines.
