What Is Pay Per Click Advertising?

Pay Per Click or Paid Search Results advertising is nothing new to the Internet.  In fact it has been around for at least 10 years.  It has become very popular, due to Google's entry into the business in the form of Google Adwords® over the past several years.  Another PPC service is Yahoo Search Marketing which is the former Overture pay per click service.  Both of these are quite formidable and command a significant share of the market, with Google AdWords leading the way and dominating the medium. 

There are other pay per click services such as MIVA which allow you to enter into the PPC market less expensively.Pay per click ads appear on search engine results pages or they can appear on the search engine network such as Google Adsense Ads, Yahoo or MIVA.  Each player in PPC has a network of sites, in addition to their own proprietary search pages, that display the textual ads.  Google has opened up the Adsense medium by displaying graphics and video ads as well.

Without question, if you have the money, Pay Per Click advertising is the fastest way to get your product or service in front of your target market.  The purpose of this section, since there is a section that deals with Adwords exclusively, is to discuss everyone else.  There are some alternatives such as MIVA and Enhance which tend to be somewhat less expensive and less intimidating to use for first timers.  Still in all if you want to make an impact use Google Adwords.  If you want to test your way into a market segment then I would suggest MIVA or Enhance.  By the way each of these services have significant traffic
